The Preliminary Evaluation Meeting for 2024 Huangpu Riverside Sculpture Exhibition Held

On May 25, 2024, the preliminary evaluation meeting for 2024 Huangpu Riverside Sculpture Exhibition was successfully held at Shanghai Art Museum. Trough the exhibition, Shanghai Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, in conjunction with China Sculpture Institute, Pudong New District People's Government, Xuhui District People's Government, are jointly promoting the high-quality development of Shanghai, practicing the People's Urban concept, and striving to raise the level of world-class public art in Huangpu River waterfront space.

At the same time, the exhibition also serves as a continuation of academic exploration in the field of public art in Shanghai. It is not only a display of the aesthetic value of sculpture but also a profound practice of the urban spirit of Shanghai, reflecting the image of a modern international metropolis that pursues high-quality development while valuing cultural depth and academic significance.

Since the open call for submissions from both domestic and international artists began on April 9 this year, until the deadline on May 15, a total of 1348 sculpture proposals were received from 691 artists representing 38 countries and regions worldwide (excluding 6 directional invited works and 6 specially invited works). This included 109 foreign artists and 582 Chinese artists.

In order to ensure the smooth progress of the exhibition and that each exhibited work of high level and quality, we have adjusted the number of the selected works in the preliminary evaluation. According to the latest plan, 30 proposals were selected from 1,348 proposals, they will participate in the maquette exhibition and final review along with 6 directional and 6 specially invited works.
